TAXIS can be arranged through the hotel desk

Please note that the smaller TURISTAXI hatchbacks, and  yellow  PANATAXIS are much cheaper than the larger saloons. However if you are moving a lot of luggage you will have to take the larger car. Rates to the airport are approximately.

Look out for the VAIVEN tourist bus that does the circuit of Havana stopping at all hotels and anywhere you want to get off. This can be good value with a flat rate of $4.

It would be a shame not to go for a ride in one of the 1950s American cars that cruise the streets of Havana.  Be aware that these are normally private cars and so negotiate the rate beforehand.

BICITAXIS are licensed three wheel bicycle taxis who offer a scenic way to get around town, careful on windy days as I’ve seen them getting blown over!

BUS To get around the country on a budget you could make use of the bus company ASTRO that has a terminal in Calle Independencia near Plaza de la Revolucion. They have daily busses to Santiago de Cuba, Cienfuegos, Camaguey, Trinidad etc. Call reservations for details on 703397.

VIA AZUL a slightly smarter bus company have their terminal on the corner of 23 and Ave. Zoologico in Nuevo Vedado. They also run a nationwide network but all their busses are air-conditioned. You can call 811108, 811413 or81565  for further information in English or Spanish.

Train

To be honest the trains are pretty awful unless you’re a train spotter and in search of the days of  steam. If you insist on trying this form of transport  go to the Central Station in Egido street, Old Havana and ask for the office of LADIS, you may have to book a number of days in advance.

 Internal Flights

Always aim to be in the airport at least 2 hrs before a National flight.

Most airlines have their offices in La Rampa of 23 in Vedado, including Cubana. Internal scheduled flights of Cubana are normally booked well ahead. It is very difficult to change the internal flight you booked in the UK.   Other airlines that specialise in charters are AEROCARIBBEAN (in La Rampa) , AEROGAVIOTA, AEROTAXI or INTER.
